Alfred M. Cady Jr. ('35) died peacefully at his home on June 21, 2010. Al was born in Syracuse on January 4, 1918. While a student at Nottingham, he fell in love with Patricia "Pat" Brown. He graduated from Hamilton College in 1940 and married Pat on May 30, 1942. After serving as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during WW II, he returned to Syracuse, where he became a salesman for the McMillan Book Co. and the Rome Soap Co. Subsequently he joined his father at the Syracuse Oil Co. Al shortly became president of the company and had a successful career building and expanding the oil business. After his family, which always came first, he loved to fish, golf and play bridge. When he retired in 1975, Al and Pat moved to Marco Island, Florida, where they lived by the ocean and spent countless hours together fishing and exploring the area. They often fished with their friend and guide, Todd Geroy, who eventually named two remote bays in the 10,000 Islands for them--Al's Bayou and Pat's Bayou. Al was a member of Onondaga Golf and Country Club for 57 years. He was considered one of its finest putters; however, his proudest golfing moments were his two holes in one. When he could no longer golf, he continued to visit the club twice a week to play bridge with his loyal friends who faithfully transported him from his apartment at the Nottingham to the club. He was also a longtime member of the Royal Poinciana Golf Club in Naples FL, and the Century Club, and University Club of Syracuse. Al was predeceased by his wife, Pat, in 2007 and his daughter, Elizabeth, in 1963.
