Tracey Sugarman (’38) will visit Nottingham in May 1st to speak to art students and 11th grade AP US History students. Tracey is an illustrator and painter whose sketches have appeared on television, and in books, newspapers and magazines. His new book is called “Drawing Conclusions: An Artist Discovers His America”.

Margaret McCain Belden ('38), 89, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Crouse Hospital. Peg attended Nottingham High School and Syracuse University, class of 1942, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. In WWII, she was a Red Cross worker in Egypt and Israel. Peg went back to Syracuse University and earned a master's in elementary education. When she retired from teaching, she kept busy tutoring for Literacy Volunteers and sewing. She enjoyed tennis, swimming and traveling with her husband. Peg was a member of the Social Arts Club, English Speaking Union and Women of St. Paul's. She was predeceased by her husband, William Allen Belden; a grandson, Dylan Moore; and her brothers, Samuel and Edwin McCain. Survived by a son, James Belden of Oakwood, California, daughters, Elizabeth Handler (Richard) of Syracuse, Martha Moore (Stephen) of Cazenovia; a sister, Edna Burke; a sister-in-law, Dora McCain; seven grandchildren, Megan (Shawn) Carey, Lucie, Molly, Naomi (Adam Conti) and Sam Handler, Maggie and Willie Moore; five great-grandchildren, Rosie, Andy, Evan and Brian Carey and Gabriella Lambert and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, April 11, at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, 310 Montgomery St., Syracuse, NY 13202. The family will greet friends in the Brewster Room of the Cathedral following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Literacy Volunteers, 1320 Jamesville Ave., Syracuse, NY 13210, St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral or Christ Church of Manlius, 407 E. Seneca St., Manlius, NY 13104. Arrangements are being handled by Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel.

John M. Yavorsky ('38), 88, died April 6, 2008, in Napa, California. John graduated from the New York State College of Forestry in 1942. He married Jane Stellman, ('38) on December 15, 1942 and served in the Army Air Corps, spending most of the war at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. Jane and John returned to Syracuse after the war where John obtained a Ph.D. at the College of Forestry in wood technology.

They moved to Rome, Italy in 1956, where John managed the Forestry and Forest Products Division of the U.N.’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). In 1963 they moved to Lima, Peru when John served as the FAO Project Manager to establish a College of Forestry at the Universidad Agraria. In 1967 they returned to Syracuse. John assumed responsibility for Dean of Continuing Education at SUNY’s College of Environmental Science and Forestry until he retired in 1984 as Professor Emeritus. They moved to Boynton Beach, Florida in 1986, and divided their time between Boynton Beach and Santa Rosa, California, their summer residence.

Jane died April 29, 2003. John was an avid golfer, bridge player, and gregarious friend who touched the lives of everyone who came in contact with him. He loved Rome, Italy and everything Italian, relishing a strong capuccino or a good, inexpensive glass of wine. He worshipped the sun and loved walking on the beach. John is survived by his six children and their families including Nottingham alumni: Susan Yavorsky ('68) and her husband, Joe Tuck ('68), Karen Yavorsky Stolz ('73), and her husband R.L. Stolz ('74), and Piera Yavorsky Dermody ('75).

Isabel McCarthy Stoutenburg (’38), 86, died July 21, 2007, in Syracuse. She was vice president of her class at Nottingham and graduated from Syracuse University. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, serving on its alumnae board. She was a homemaker and also worked as secretary-treasurer of the family business, J & FB Garrett Paper Company, retiring in 1982. She is survived by her husband, William, five daughters, 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Patricia Brown Cady (’38), 87, of Syracuse, died March 6, 2007. She was a secretary for Church and Dwight for several years and was active in the Junior League, Century Club, Onondaga Golf and Country Club, and the Town and Country Garden Club. She loved golf, gardening, and her weekly bridge game of over 50 years. She also did needlepoint and watercolor painting. She is survived by her husband, three children, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Isabel Slingerland Gerber (’38), 86, of Mattydale, died March 29, 2007. She was a well-known local artist. She is survived by a daughter and son, and two grandchildren.
