MillerLawrence C. Miller, MD ('43), 86, of Staten Island, N.Y. and Siesta Key, Fla., died in his sleep at home in Florida surrounded by family on June 29, 2011. Dr. Miller was born in the small coal town of Shamokin, Pa., soon moved with his family to Williamsport, Pa., and then to Syracuse, N.Y., where he graduated from Nottingham High School in 1943. Upon high school graduation, Dr. Miller enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force where he served as a Tech Sergeant and radio operator on a B-17 Flying Fortress with the U.S. Eighth Air Force's 305th ("Can-Do") Bomb Group in the European Theater of Operations. Dr. Miller graduated from Syracuse University in 1949 and the University of Zurich Medical School in Switzerland in 1955. Dr. Miller settled in Staten Island in 1959, practiced both adult and child psychiatry as a hospital clinician, medical director and in private practice for close to fifty years prior to his retirement at age 83. From 1974 to 2000, Dr. Miller was the Director of Psychiatry at Saint Vincent's Medical Center where he played a significant role in the expansion of psychiatric services on Staten Island. Dr. Miller is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Lynne; his sons, Dan and David; his brother, Melvin and five granddaughters. Dr. Miller was pre-deceased by his brothers, Bill and Gene and his sisters, Pauline, Mim and Leah.

Nan Thompson True ('43) died peacefully on July 19, 2011, at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY, surrounded by the family she loved so much. Born in Syracuse, NY, on September 22, 1925, to Byron and Agnes Barnard Thompson, Nan graduated from Nottingham High School in Syracuse and from Syracuse University (Cum Laude) in 1947 with a major in social work. While at Syracuse University, she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and a proud alumna thereafter. After college, she worked for the Onondaga County Dept. of Social Services and the American Red Cross, helping to contact local family members of deployed servicemen. In September, 1949, she married another Nottingham graduate, Jerome "Jerry" B. True, and they spent the next 61 years together. Nan's proudest achievement was raising their four children, Jeffrey B. True (Susan Schattschneider), Sally T. True (Tony Parise), Carol True-Palmer (Glen Palmer), and Jay B. True (Sandy True). Nan was the one who attended to everyone else's needs at home and made the children's education a priority. She instilled in them social skills and insisted on proper manners and grammar. She loved animals (especially her dogs), antiquing, and spending time on Cayuga Lake. Nan also delighted in the accomplishments of her eight grandchildren, Emily True Parise Rosen (Thomas Rosen), Jennifer True Parise, Nicholas True Palmer, Allison True, Christopher True Parise, Jonathan True, Hillary True Palmer, and Alexander R. True. She loved attending all of their various activities and always had an encouraging word for their efforts. She was predeceased by brother, Hugh Thompson (Peg Thompson) and sister, Jane Thompson. An Ithaca resident since 1958, when the family moved because Jerry purchased the T.H. Davenport Insurance Agency. Nan was active in many organizations including the PTA, Junior League of Binghamton, Cub Scouts, American Association of University Women, Ithaca Women's Club, the Upstairs Gallery, and was a longtime member of the Ithaca Yacht Club.

Phyllis Freeman Poushter (’43), 84, died June 4, 2009, in Syracuse. She won various prizes for her art work. She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging and golf. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dr. David L. Poushter, three daughters, several grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, brother Cyril Freeman ('48), and inlaws Shirley and Bob Rosen.

Anthony Esposito (’43), 83, of Syracuse, died April 5, 2009. He served in the US Maritime Service and the US Army during WWII. He was a builder and real estate agent, and a building inspector for Onondaga County Community Development. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rose, a daughter and three sons, four grandchildren, and brothers Vincent of Lafayette and Joseph of Fayetteville.

Jeanne Conklin Kuboviak (‘43) died in Texas in March, 2004.
