Laura
Roberts Crawford ('63), 65, of Mississauga, Ontario,
died June 1, 2011, after a long bout with cancer. Laura was born
in Syracuse November 5, 1945, to Dr. and Mrs. Frederick (Ann)
Roberts. She was a graduate of Nottingham High and Cornell
University. She received a master's degree in education after
marriage and moved to Canada, where she lived until her death.
She was a dedicated teacher until her retirement six years ago.
Survived by her husband, Robert Crawford; her parents, Ann and
Frederick Roberts; a son, Daniel (Tal) Wood; daughters, Katie
(Morgan) Wood-Dennis and Lisa (Charles) Cunningham; grandsons,
Oren Wood and Zachary Wood of Montreal. Also survived by four
brothers, Frank (Linda) Roberts, Douglas Roberts, Stephen
Roberts and Lawrence (Cynthia) Roberts; stepson, Robert (Beth)
Crawford; stepdaughter, Dawn (Geoff) Murrin; as well as several
nieces and nephews; and an uncle, Dr. George Roberts of
Birmingham, Michigan. Laura will be remembered for her warm
personality, her artistic skills, her devotion to her family and
her dedication to her students.
Stephanie
A. "Nan" Kashdin ('63), 64, of Syracuse, died Monday,
June 7, 2010 at Crouse Hospital. She had retired from Accounts
Control as a collection manager and had formerly worked for
Beneficial Finance and Commercial Credit. She was active with
CNY Dialysis. She is survived by her brothers, Laurence
(Cynthia) Kashdin, Neal (Tina) Kashdin, Eric Kashdin all of
Florida; her sister, Ellen (Ernie) Litterick of Atlanta; her
lifelong friends, Robert and Susan Dunshie, Roxanne Dunshie,
Roberta Chandler, Robert and Jennifer Dunshie, Carrie and Brian
Irish; and several nieces and nephews.
Benjamin
"Benny" Mollica ('63), 64, died peacefully Friday,
March 25, 2011, at Tarpon Bayou Center Nursing Home, Florida
after a long illness. Ben was a longtime resident of Syracuse,
New York and worked with his parents, at the family's business,
Sorrento's Restaurant and Bar, on Lodi St. He then moved to Fort
Myers Beach, Florida where he lived and worked for 34 years.
Benny enjoyed bowling, golfing and was a huge sports enthusiast.
He was a die-hard NY Yankees fan who never missed a game and
although had moved from Syracuse still loved his Syracuse
Orangemen. He will always be remembered for his quick wit,
casual humor and the comfortable ease as to which he used them
to make people laugh. Benny was predeceased by his loving
parents, Dominick Red and Mary C. Mollica, as well as, his older
sister,Margaret Jean Mollica. He is survived by his three
children, Mary M. Mollica, Dominick J. (Laura) Mollica, both of
Liverpool, NY, and Michelle M. Mollica of Atlanta, Georgia; a
sister, Rose (John) Stefanelli of New Port Richey, Florida; and
four grandchildren, Joshua B., Kaitlyn K. and Hannah R. Ward and
Christian M. Mollica; plus several nieces, and nephews.
Dr. Martin F. Hilfinger Jr., of Syracuse and Tully, NY, died Feb. 2, 2006, in Syracuse. He
was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Hamilton College. After
graduating summa cum laude from the Syracuse College of
Medicine, he served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during WW II.
He became an associate Professor of Pathology at the College of
Medicine in Syracuse, and was appointed in 1963 as Onondaga
County's first full time Medical Examiner, a position he held
for the next 20 years. In 1963 he was selected to the Sports
Illustrated Silver Anniversary All-America Football Team, given
for lifetime achievements in Athletics and Medicine. A
specialist in the Pathology of Cancer, he received the annual
award of NY State division of the American Cancer Society in
1956. He is survived by the former Nancy Taylor (’36),
his wife of 63 years; daughters, Sarah (Tom) Tomb (’63) and Heidi Wilson,
both of Fayetteville, NY; a son, Martin, III (’62) (Nyla) of Tully, NY.
