Eight Nottingham alumni are scheduled to be honored at the third annual Wall of Fame induction ceremony on October 11. They include Dr. Fred Roberts (’35), Quentin Kopp (’48), Nancy Knapp McCarty (’50), J. Sehl Burns (’62), Ben Burtt (’66) , Tony Trischka (’66), Dr. Steven Galson (’74), and Dr. Nancy Andrews (’76).
Academy Award-winner Ben Burtt Jr. (’66) has been working on sound design for two summer blockbusters: “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” and the animated feature “WALL-E”, for which he also contributes voices.
Tony Trischka (’66), 59, performed March 8th at the Westcott Community Center. He proved he is one of the finest banjo players in the world, playing old favorites and numbers from his new CD, “Territory”.
Tony Trischka (’66) is hoping for a Grammy Feb. 8th for his CD, “Double Banjo Bluegrass Spectacular”. It is his first Grammy nomination.
Ben Burtt (’66) was honored on the opening night of the fourth annual Syracuse International Film Festival. Ben has won several Oscars and Special Achievement Awards for his sound editing.
Sheldon Kruth (’66) received the Legacy Award from the Jewish Community Foundation. Sheldon is a CPA and managing partner of Kruth, Stein, Squadrito, Liberman and Silverman CPAs. He lives in Fayetteville.
Nottingham’s second annual Wall of Fame ceremony will be held October 13. Honorees include Walter Diamond (’30), James Early (’39), Ellie Berg Hayman (’51), Doug Swift (’66), David Klim (’70), Felisha Legette-Jack (’84), and Thom Filicia (’88). Karen Oberbrunner (’84) will perform.
Ben Burtt Jr. (’66) designed the sound for “Munich” at the request of Steven Spielberg. This was a deviation from his job at Pixar, a company whose is exclusively animation.
Gail Greiner Perry (’66), 61, of Round Rock, TX, died July 14, 2009, after a courageous fight against multiple illnesses. She was a special ed teacher and a volunteer in the CASA program for the protection of children. She enjoyed spending summers in Henderson Harbor and family vacations to Siesta Key, FL. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, John, a daughter and two sons, four grandchildren, her mother Amelia and brother Bob.
Mary Catherine Dixson Deal (’31) died in September 2008 at the age of 95. She was a high school English teacher and librarian. Married James Allen Deal who owned Deal Florist. She had two daughters, Susan Hunt Deal (‘66) and Margo Tracey Deal Erickson. Spent her life in service to her community. She liked to say her idea of heaven was a baked potato with a pound of butter! Gail "Mimi" Greiner Perry ('66), 61, of Round Rock (Austin), Texas, passed
away peacefully on July 14, 2009 at home, surrounded by her
loving family. She fought courageously for 13 years against
multiple illnesses with a beautiful smile and deep spirit that
never wavered. After graduating from Nottingham High and the
University of Texas, Gail entered the field of education as a
special ed teacher and a volunteer in the CASA program for the
protection of children. She devoted herself to the needs of
children until her illness forced her retirement. Gail's
favorite pleasures were summers at Henderson Harbor, NY, their
family vacations to Siesta Key, FL, and spending time with her
children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 36
years, John; daughter, Jana Owens (Josh); sons, Jamie and Brian;
grandchildren, Madison and Gavyn Owens, Emma and Katelyn Perry;
mother, Amelia Greiner; brother, Bob Greiner (Debbie); and
several nieces and nephews
Lorraine (Lori) Rathbun Lee (’66), 59, died October 1, 2007, in Oswego. She was a registered nurse and worked at Strong Memorial in Rochester and A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital in Auburn. She is survived by her husband, Gary Cranfield, two sons, two stepsons, three sisters and two brothers.
Suzanne Eberle Stokes (’66), 59, died August 28, 2007. She lived in California and dedicated her life to church ministry and prayer. She is survived by her husband, George, four children, one grandchild, her parents, and four siblings.
Jeffrey Lee Sussman (’66), 58, died June 28, 2006. He was a resident of Ormond Beach, Florida. He played college basketball at Long Island University before heading south to attend the University of Miami. He worked in the travel industry in Miami and Ormond Beach. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Pam Rill (’66). The Jewish Community Center of Syracuse has set up an athletic scholarship in Jeffrey’s name.
