October 31, 2008

Nathaniel Jamison ('78) was shot and killed as he and a friend were securing a house he owned that had been broken into earlier in the day. Jamison was a well-known clothes peddler in Syracuse, storing some of his merchandise in the house. He was also a floor installer. Police were looking for two suspects, possibly teenagers.

November 1, 2008

Two teenagers were arrested in the death of Nathaniel Jamison ('78). Va Tell Baptista, 16, was charged with second-degree murder and first-degree arson. Montell Camber, 13, was charged with second-degree murder. he is the youngest suspect charged with murder in at least 18 years in Onondaga County and was charged as a juvenile offender, facing a maximum sentence of 9 years to life. Baptista is facing a maximum sentence of 25 years to life. The youths entered after 11pm Wednesday, October 29, and shot him once in the back. There is no indication the boys knew Jamison.

Meg Murray ('78) writes that she is doing well in Fairfield CT. She is a stay-at-home mom with three children and a jewelry design business. She keeps in touch with Amy Dryansky, June Edelstein, Leslie Archer, Brian Collins, Dan and Tana Pusey, Hugh and Ira Share, Evan Birkhead and Josh Cohen.

Obituaries

Erich Milair ('78), 48, of Melbourne, FL, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2009.  He was born in Syracuse, NY.  Survived by his wife, Shannon; son, Seth; daughters, Baylee, Caitlin and Savannah; father, Alan Milair; brother, Dana (Kara) Milair; and sister, Shawn (Martin) Wayson. In lieu of flowers, Erich's wife, Shannon, could use any help raising the children. Pauline Rosenthal Share ('41), 82, died March 4, 2006, of complications due to a stroke. She was a proud wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Alan ('39); her children: Steven ('71), Susan ('72), Harlan ('76), Ira ('78) and Hugh ('79).

Anthony Mirco ('79) died March 4, 2006. He was severely injured 24 years ago while on active duty in the Marine Corp. His injuries left him physically disabled but not emotionally. He was known for his huge smile, funny jokes, and generosity.  Anthony is survived by his two sisters, Kristine Collins ('86) of NJ and Nina Mirco-Garcia ('78) of Syracuse.

K. Jeffery Bickart (’78), 48, died October 17, 2008, in Craftsbury, VT, of melanoma.  He earned a BA from Johns Hopkins in 1982 and an MS in geology from the University of Michigan in 1986. After teaching high school biology and Spanish in Bath, ME, he joined the faculty of Sterling College in 1998, where he taught geology, ecology, ornithology, botany, fiber arts, organic crop production and traditional outdoor living skills. He was an avid reader and published poet and essayist. He made homemade clothing and a wood and canvas canoe and created a homestead farm, where he was interested in the preservation of heirloom fruits and vegetables. He was also a long distance runner until his illness.  He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, two children, parents, sister, Lauren, and stepsister Jennifer.

Nathaniel Jamison (’78), 49, died October 29, 2008, in Syracuse, the victim of a homicide.  He graduated from BOCES where he obtained his tile license. He was self-employed and sold clothing. He is survived by his wife, Rachael, six children, several grandchildren, his mother, three sisters and a brother.
